Your room-by-room vacate cleaning checklist
Moving out of a rental property takes more preparation than most people expect. To help protect your bond and leave things in great shape, we've put together this room-by-room checklist so nothing gets missed.
Kitchen
- Pay special attention to the oven
- Clean hotplate surfaces, including trays and rings
- Remove and clean exhaust fans or exhaust units above the stove
- Empty and clean all cupboards inside and out
- Clean the dishwasher and leave it slightly ajar to air
Floors
- Mop polished board and tiled surfaces, including skirting boards
- Vacuum carpets thoroughly and consider professional shampooing
Windows, blinds and walls
- Clean all windows, including tracks and ledges
- Clean all curtains, blinds, and window furnishings
- Use specialised glass cleaners for all mirrored and glass surfaces
- Clean all walls thoroughly
Bathroom
- Clean shower/bath recesses, glass surfaces, and tracks to remove soap scum and mould
- Clean out the vanity and wipe all surfaces, including drawers and under-sink areas
- Ensure the toilet bowl, inside and outside, is thoroughly cleaned
Outdoor areas
- Sweep and clean verandas, paths, balconies, and patios
- Remove cobwebs from external surfaces
- Clean the exterior of any low windows, especially where pets have been present
- Place wheelie bins and recycling bins out for collection, ensuring they are cleaned out
- If applicable, clean any BBQ areas or external entertaining areas
Don't Forget:
Ceilings and fans
- Dust the ceiling and clean any ceiling fans or fixtures
Air conditioning units
- Clean air conditioning units, ensuring they are free of dust and dirt
Walls
- Wipe down walls, paying attention to any marks or scuffs
Surfaces
- Clean all surfaces, including countertops, tables, and other furniture
Flooring
- Finish by cleaning the floors, whether they are carpeted, tiled, or hardwood
